SAT Preparation
The SAT continues to be an important element in college acceptance. There are two sections of the SAT that require excellent literacy skills--Critical Reading and Writing. The Critical Reading section is a part of the original test, and it is used to determine a student's readiness for college level reading comprehension. The Writing section is most often used by colleges to place students in the appropriate level college writing course. Students may chose to receive tutoring in one or both of these sections.
SAT services are tailored specifically to the student. Students will be pre-tested and strengths and weaknesses will be assessed. Students will do skill building exercises to develop the academic rigor necessary for success on the test, as well as learn test-taking strategy. After each tutoring session, changes will be made in the tutoring plan to ensure rapid growth in skills and to build confidence in the student. The student will be provided with a specific plan of action for the day of the test and will rehearse the plan so that the test day is as stress-free as possible.

College Application Preparation Services
Applying to college requires extensive literacy skills--the only way the college admissions committee "knows" you as a candidate is by what you write about yourself. There are several aspects of the college application process where a student may need coaching and assistance:
- College essay writing. All colleges require a "college essay" which is sometimes a personal statement and other times a personal response to a specific question or writing prompt. When a student is applying to a competitive school or program, or is applying to a "reach" school and needs to stand out from the application pool, it is often the college essay that admissions committees rely upon to make the acceptance decision.
- College application. Simply navigating the pages and pages of a college application can be overwhelming for some students. Again, each section is a category on which a student is judged for acceptance, so competitive students need to take careful consideration in answering questions on all sections of the application to represent themselves in their best light.
Academic Tutoring
Sometimes students need extra skill building and learning strategies that are not provided in the homogeneous classroom setting. Academic tutoring focuses on helping students to be successful with their current course work and is suitable for:
- Skill building for students with learning disabilities
- Help with formal academic reading and writing skills
- Guidance and step-by-step assistance with major academic assignments
- Obtaining a competitive edge in advanced courses
- Improve GPA and academic ranking
Many times students have academic writing projects that feel overwhelming and they either leave the project until last minute or simply write one draft and never get around to editing and revising it. In addition to receiving assistance on academic writing during a tutoring session, students may also receive academic writing coaching online, with the following services available:
- Step-by-step writing coaching via Skype or FaceTime
- Critical feedback on existing drafts where I will provide basic editing and extensive comments and feedback on how to improve the draft
- "Eleventh Hour" editing and revision services for those last minute drafts that desperately need some improvement before the looming deadline
